Hey Kids, ( Even if some of you are nearing AARP eligibility, you’ll always be ‘kids’ to us … )

Mom and I went over to the office at “Fish ‘N Fry” RV park where we’re staying yesterday, they have a nice little restaurant, with a bar and gift shop. Mom says this is the nicest RV park we’ve ever stayed at, and I have to agree.

Anyway, on the menu board, along with the usual cheeseburgers and like, was a “fish dinner”. The owner was standing there, along with the lady who does the cooking, and Mom said “Oh, I want that fish dinner, what kind of fish is it?” “Trout”, the owner said, “and you have to catch it”. Mom got a funny look on her face and mumbled “I hate to kill anything…”, forgetting about that last all you can eat shrimp dinner we had, when how many innocent shrimp gave their all for this woman.

So, we all walked outside to the fishing dock about 50 feet away, our host pulled out a kid-sized fishing rod, but a little bait on the end and cast it out into the pond they have, diverted from the trout stream, and handed the rod to Mom.

The red and white bobber started to bob, and then bang, Mom had a fish on. “Reel it in, reel it in”, the owner said, and there was Mom reeling away, trying to get that fighting fish to the dock, where the net was ready. It was a nice rainbow trout, about 12 inches long.

As they examined the fish, Mom got this sad look and said, “Oh, I hate to kill anything”, ( I hope that included husbands) and turned down an offer to watch the fish being cleaned.

A few minutes later, the cook brought out the fish, along with the potatoes and cold slaw, and an extra plate for me, there was plenty for the both of us.

“This is delicious”, said the killer. And, it was.

Mom Goes Fishing- letter to our children

We had a large group that stayed at the Fish N Fry for 4 nights last week. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay – or a nicer bunch of people. Gary and Michele and all of their staff were so gracious and helpful. It was a sad day when Sunday came and we all had to leave. It just felt like home and I can’t wait to come back for another visit. See you guys next summer!

“Awesome Campground!!”

This is a great campground! The sites are treed and many have a stream flowing past. It is clean, friendly and has a restaurant and store as well. There is even a small swimming pool and cute cabins. Stayed here for a Sisters on the Fly event, we had the whole camp. They were wonderful hosts.

My husband and I have been stopping every night at a different Good Sam campground with our pop-up from CA to NH (coast to coast). The Fish’n Fry Campground was our favorite stop. The quietest, off the road, clean bathrooms, wonderful food(diner) and little grocery. The hosts were extremely helpful and so welcoming, we wanted to stay another night. We did not, only because of our driving schedule. Recommend this spot to anyone in the area, whether you have a RV, tent, or want to stay in their cabins!

“Absolutely Wonderful Find!”

Stayed 2 nights in June 2016 on our way to Wyoming. Wonderful staff, great campground. Excellent food. This campground has more shade than others nearby and a creek in your backyard. Very clean. The staff will be happy to guide you on directions to all the attractions.

“Excellent Campground!”

We Loved camping next to the creek — very peaceful. Staff was extremely accommodating. Good showers, friendly atmosphere, reasonable price. Our granddaughters spent a lot of time in the pool. Our spot had electricity and water, and there was a central dump station available. We liked the mountain feel of this campground — it is nestled into the natural scenery and has trees.

“We Loved Camping Near the Creek!”

We visit Deadwood often and this is our favorite place to stay when camping. We have stayed in the cabins, which are wonderful, and on our last visit we took our vintage camper and stayed for the Kool Deadwood Nights event, and hope to do so again this summer. The rates are very reasonable and the area, nestled in the trees of the Black Hills, with a charming creek, and only minutes to Deadwood, is great. The owners are so friendly and kind, and they keep the campground in tip-top shape. The showering and restroom facilities are clean. The cafe and trout pond are incredibly picturesque. They have a couple of vintage arcade games in the laundry room that I love to play -Mrs PacMan! It’s just a great campground and I highly recommend it 🙂

“Best Campground In or Around Deadwood!”

We took the family (2 grade school kids) out for the maiden voyage of our ’67 airstream. We’d never been to the Black Hills before. We stayed four nights here and it was amazing! The owners were great and made sure we knew all the different things to do around the area. The grounds were pretty with a nice stream running thru that our kids could fish at or wade in. The showers and bathrooms were clean. But most of all was the staff. Everyone was super nice and made the experience a great time. We will definitely be going back here again!!
